Weekly Update 8/28

Happy Friday!! We had a busy week in 4th grade!




Writing:  We decorated our writing notebooks and launched our writing workshop!  We are going to be focusing on realistic fiction during our first unit.  We have begun using strategies to gather realistic fiction story ideas.


Reading:  We also began our reading workshop this week.  We are focusing on how we can pick books that are just right for us (not too easy or too hard).  We talked about how we can read intensely by paying close attention to each detail and by putting ourselves IN the story.


Math: This week we practiced our procedures for our math workshop and it will get underway on Monday!  We are excited to jump into our first chapter focused on place value.  Please encourage your child to practice their multiplication facts nightly!


**Each Friday students will be sent home with their Leadership Binder.  This binder contains goals we are working on, our mission statements, and our weekly snapshot.  The weekly snapshot gives students the opportunity to reflect on their behavior and academics throughout that week.  Please look over the sheet with your child during the weekend and send the binder back to school on Mondays!**

Buddies!

This morning we got to meet our 1st grade buddies!  We had so much fun interviewing them and reading books together.  We can't wait to get together with them again soon :)

August 25

Today we worked hard to organize our library so that it is easy for the kids to use!  Reading is so important so we need to make sure that our library is organized the way the kids like it so that they will use it often.  They did a great job working in groups.  Organizing our library also gave the kids a chance to preview some of the books in our library, some even chose to read a book that they found while organizing!!

What a great first "week" of 4th grade!!  We learned even more about our classroom by doing a scavenger hunt around the room.  We also learned about how each of us is different and learns in our own way.  This afternoon we had our back to school assembly.  We had a lot of fun!  Have a wonderful weekend!

First Day!

WOW!! What an awesome first day!  Here are some pictures of our class from our first day of fourth grade!  We did some fun activities to get to know each other and played games.  We learned about the routines of our classroom and took a tour of the building to refresh our memories.  I am looking forward to a fun-filled year!
